Cambodia Family Cycle Tour, Bike closer to the Kingdoms Culture

Looking to experience real family cultural immersion by Bike? This family friendly cycle tour is a magical adventure biking through the Kingdom of Cambodia. Transport your kids into beautiful South East Asia, pedalling through Cambodia with its impactful history, and most scenic places, this is a unique family cycling holiday where fantastic memories are made

Sandwiched between Thailand and Vietnam, Cambodia is a melting pot of South East Asian culture, scenery and cuisine. The people are friendly, happy and gentle. Having struggled through years of bloodshed, poverty and political instability they have a seemingly unbreakable spirit, infectious optimism and have prevailed with their smiles intact. You will come away with admiration and affection for the local people.

Cambodia is perfect for a family biking holiday! The Khmer people are laid back, the terrain is flat and the food is tasty! Our ‘laid-back’ family cycle tour begins in Siem Reap in the north and as we wind our way south we take regular breaks from the bike to visit village industries, floating and stilt villages, sample tropical fruits and cool off in swimming pools and ocean. Our cycling journey ends in Phnom Penh, the capital city and a fitting end to this stunning journey.

We have planned daily riding distances to be achievable for kids aged 10-16.  Some teens/parents may enjoy more riding challenge – and on some days it will be possible to offer more riding for those who wish.

Note: We run family tours on request, rather than having a tour scheduled every season. We require a minimum of 8 people to confirm a family cycle tour – so get your friends and family together then get in touch to chat about suitable dates, and lock in your trip!

Cambodia Family Cycle Tour Frequently Asked Questions

Escape Adventures fully supported tours have been running for decades, if you have any questions "just ask us"

The biking lowdown

Your tour itinerary offers 25-50km biking per day; a total distance of up to 330km spread over 9 days of biking.

The Terrain. We cycle on a range of paved and unpaved roads, dirt tracks and village trails on mostly very flat terrain.  The surface can be rough and pot-holed at times.  The trip is suited to bikers with a good level of fitness and some off-road riding experience will add to the enjoyment of your tour.  A mountain bike with front suspension is the ideal bike and we have a fleet of mountain bikes available for hire.

We have planned daily riding distances to be achievable for kids aged 10-16.  Some teens/parents may enjoy more riding challenge – and on some days it will be possible to offer more riding for those who wish.

Support: Our trusty support vehicle carries all your luggage, has lunch, snacks and water at hand, and is there if you need a break from the saddle.

Group Size: 2-3 like minded biking families.

How fit do I need to be for this cycle tour?

Your cycle tour includes rides of up to 50km per day.  Please do read about the daily riding distances and riding terrain in the itinerary below and prepare accordingly.  The more prepared you are the more you will enjoy your holiday!  Preparing for your cycle tour should involve:

  • Some dirt and off-road riding.
  • You should be comfortable riding 2-3 times a week with regular rides of 20-30km in length.

Support: Our trusty support vehicle carries all your luggage, has lunch, snacks and water at hand, and is there if you need a break from the saddle.

Can some families, kids or youth bike longer distances?

Riding distances can be tailored to a large extent to the ages and biking abilities of the families riding with us.

Please let us know if you’re an experienced Adventure Tour Family, or are keen cycling family with many km’s under your belt and you know you’d be fit and able to and you’d like to cycle longer distances.

On some days more riding is available to keen cyclists and on every day the support vehicle is always available to take a break if you need it.

What type of bikes do we ride?

In Cambodia we hire bikes locally through a Siem Reap based business. They are always near new hard tail mountain bikes with hydraulic disc brakes and 27 or 30-speed Shimano components. They are available in S, M, L and XL and they are perfect for the off-road touring on our Cambodia tour.

If you will be hiring a bike from us please let us know prior to your trip, and please feel free to bring your favourite saddle and clip in pedals (if you normally clip in).

What kind of meals do you provide?

Your tour leaders will take care of your meals and snacks throughout your journey mostly taking advantage of the delicious fare in local cafes and restaurants. This excludes two lunches and four evening meals which are at your own cost to give you the opportunity to explore local cuisine of your own choosing. We are most definitely able to cater for vegetarians and special diets. Typical meals include:

  • Breakfasts – Local breakfasts are often bread & eggs and fresh fruit.
  • Lunches – Local meat and vegetable dishes with plenty of rice. Sometimes picnic style lunches, with bread, cold meats, cheese & salad.
  • Evening Meals – There are a wonderful range of local meat and vegetable dishes with plenty of rice and noodles.

What kind of accommodation can I expect?

All accommodation for the duration of your tour is included. Local guesthouses and hotels on a twin share and family room basis (2-4 star).  Most have en-suites however it is occasionally necessary to share bathroom facilities.

What is the maximum size of the cycle group?

Family Traveller

My son and I had a great time in Cambodia in January. This was our second family tour with Escape Adventures (previously we have been on the Fiji family trip) so we were already knew we would have a fantastic adventure. We knew that we were going to be safe with the team, but pushed to achieve more than we thought. Exploring by bike puts you in amongst the heat, the noise, the sights and sounds of Cambodia. From the fast, hectic cities to the remote villages, each day was filled with a new experience. My son exceeded my expectations, his biking improving on the trip as his confidence grew, he also enjoyed many hours in various swimming pools. We were lead by amazing, genuine guides, and joined by another lovely family, as we tackled our days together. An unforgettable experience!
